DML Morning Briefing Mon. Nov. 29: Big Supreme Court case, demands for freedom, and more…

By Team DML

Today is November 29 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

to take up all-or-nothing abortion fight
The Associated Press reports: WASHINGTON (AP) — Both sides are telling the Supreme Court there’s no middle ground in Wednesday’s showdown over abortion. The justices can either reaffirm the constitutional right to an abortion or wipe it away altogether.

Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that declared a nationwide right to abortion, is facing its most serious challenge in 30 years in front of a court with a 6-3 conservative majority that has been remade by three appointees of President Donald Trump.

A ruling that overturned Roe and the 1992 case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey would lead to outright bans or severe restrictions on abortion in 26 states, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights.

The case being argued Wednesday comes from Mississippi, where a 2018 law would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, well before viability. The Supreme Court has never allowed states to ban abortion before the point at roughly 24 weeks when a fetus can survive outside the womb.

DML: This is literally a fight between life and death.

2 – Large Migrant Group Rushes Border in West Texas
Breitbart reports: DEL RIO, Texas — Border Patrol agents in Del Rio apprehended more than 250 migrants crossing the Rio Grande in a single group. The group, according to a source within Customs and Border Protection (CBP) crossed the river into the United States on Sunday near the Del Rio International Bridge where more than 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants were held in a makeshift detention camp in September.

The source says the nationalities of the migrants were a mix of mostly Venezuelan and Cuban migrants. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, says the nearly 300 migrants are being held under the port of entry while they await transportation to nearby Border Patrol stations in the region.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, the area that once provided temporary shelter to nearly 15,000 migrants under the international bridge was being used again to shelter migrants as they awaited transportation in early November. The overcrowding at Border Patrol stations in the sector is one factor impeding the Border Patrol from rapidly transporting migrants from border crossing points.

These migrants will ultimately be removed from the area and processed for removal according to the source. Although some single adult migrants were among the group, family units with small children will likely be released into the communities surrounding Del Rio the source says. In what is becoming a revolving door process, on Sunday several busses from local Border Patrol stations released hundreds of migrants to a non-government shelter in Eagle Pass.

3 – Thousands protest coronavirus restrictions in Czech capital
The Associated Press reports: PRAGUE (AP) — Thousands rallied in the Czech capital of Prague on Sunday to protest the government’s restrictive measures to tackle a record surge of coronavirus infections.

The protesters included members and supporters of a number of fringe political parties and groups that failed to win any parliamentary seats in October’s election. It was their third protest in the last two weeks. The participants didn’t wear face coverings or follow social distancing rules and drank beer despite a ban on drinking alcohol in public.

At Prague’s Letna Park, the protesters chanted “Freedom!” and “We’ve had enough!” while displaying banners that discouraged getting vaccinated such as ones reading“My body my choice.”

Police didn’t intervene.

DML: How long before people all around the world have had ENOUGH?

4 – Police say Florida school did not commit child abuse by tying mask to disabled student’s face
Fox News reports: A police report determined that a Florida school and its teachers did not commit a crime or child abuse after it emerged last month that they tied a mask to the face of a student with Down syndrome.

“There is insufficient evidence to support a criminal violation” against the teacher and instructional assistant of 7-year-old Sofia Bezerra, reads a police report from the Indian Harbor Police Department, which Fox News obtained Sunday. “There was no evidence presented which supports that Sofia received a physical or emotional injury. This case is closed as Unfounded.”

“As witnessed by multiple teachers, school aides, bus drivers, and school administration staff, at no time, while having the mask tied on, did (Sofia) ever exhibit any signs of distress, discomfort, difficulty breathing, or any other health concerns,” investigators concluded.

The report comes after Bezerra’s step-father, Jeffery Steel, accused educators at Ocean Breeze Elementary School in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, of forcing his step-daughter with Down syndrome to wear a mask by tying it to her head for roughly six weeks.

Steel said that Sofia is nonverbal and has an enlarged tongue. He added that she cannot speak but breathes through her mouth, making the use of a mask dangerous to her health.

But on Oct. 7 Sofia stepped off the school bus with a mask wet from her saliva, tied to her head with a thin, nylon string, Steel told Fox News last month. He added that Sofia was not sent to school that day with a mask, nor any day prior.

DML: I don’t care what they say, this was APPALLING and UNACCEPTABLE!

5 – ‘Pro-Freedom Conservatives’ Are ‘Fleeing to Florida to Be Free’
Breitbart reports: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) leadership throughout the pandemic has brought “pro-freedom conservatives” to the Sunshine State in droves as they flee “tyrannical blue states” in search of freedom, Florida Republican Party vice chairman Christian Ziegler said during an interview on Breitbart News Saturday.

Registered Republican voters surpassed Democrats for the first time in Florida’s history as of October 31, a shift Ziegler said is largely because voters are leaving Democrat-run cities and states. He also noted that many more moderate Florida Democrats feel as though their party has “left them behind.”

From 2008 to the end of Obama’s presidency in 2016, Democrats went from nearly 700,000 more voters than Republicans to a little over 300,000, election data shows. By 2020, Democrats held slightly less than a 100,000-voter lead. Republicans are now roughly 4,000 votes ahead of Democrats — 5,118,357 to 5,114,039, according to data from the Florida Division of Elections.

Ziegler specifically credited DeSantis’s leadership with bringing in new Florida residents, touting his pandemic policy of following the science, keeping businesses and schools open, and fighting against mask and vaccine mandates.

DML: What DeSantis did is WORKING!
