DML Morning Briefing Thurs. Jan. 6: Biden, Joy Reid, Boston marathon bomber, and more…
By Team DML
Today is January 6 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Biden to mark Jan. 6 anniversary: ‘We must decide what kind of nation we are going to be’
The Hill reports: President Biden on Thursday will mark the one year anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol with a speech reflecting on the events of that day, according to excerpts released by the White House.
Biden will ask the nation, “At this moment we must decide what kind of nation we are going to be.”
He is planning to ask the American public a series of questions, including, “Are we going to be a nation that accepts political violence as a norm?”
Biden is set to mark the anniversary with a 9 a.m. speech at the Capitol in which he will “speak to the truth of what happened, not the lies that some have spread since,” according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
DML: How about all the Black Lives Matter riots, attacks on police, broken windows, burned businesses, and looted stores… will Biden talk about that too?
Fox News reports: MSNBC host Joy Reid suggested that Republicans have deep “hatred” for President Biden for his connection to the first Black president of the United States.
Ahead of Biden’s address commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill, Reid expressed concern over “whether or not he actually can change” what she believes is the ongoing threat to democracy.
“Because unbelievably, he has become for Republicans as much of a sort of figure of hatred, a hate object, as President Obama was. You know, the Black president. Like, he was his vice president, maybe that’s part of it. I don’t know what it is,” Reid told a panel on Wednesday.
“But this is the like the most sort of norm, core Democrat ever. He’s a moderate, you know, sort of ordinary Democrat. There’s nothing outrageous about him, but they have cast him as some sort of demonic character,” Reid added.
DML: Joy Reid, you are in the LOONEY BIN!
3 – Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev got $1,400 COVID relief payment
Boston 25 News reports: Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev received a $1,400 COVID relief payment, and now federal prosecutors want that and other cash in his prison account for his victims from the 2013 attack.
In a filing Wednesday, Nathaniel R. Mendell, acting United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, asked the court for an order authorizing the Bureau of Prisons to turn over to the Clerk of the Court all funds, including any funds subject to administrative hold by BOP, held in the inmate trust account for Tsarnaev.
The feds want the money “as payment towards his outstanding criminal monetary penalties, including unpaid special assessment and restitution.”
Tsarnaev was sentenced to death after being convicted in 2015 for the bombings. He’s in federal custody at the United States Penitentiary Florence ADMAX penitentiary.
DML: Unbelievable. Just no words.
4 – 1619 Project author Nikole Hannah-Jones falsely claimed Civil War began in 1865
Fox News reports: New York Times Magazine reporter and 1619 Project author Nikole Hannah-Jones falsely claimed this week that the Civil War – which began in April 1861 and resulted in an end to slavery in America – began in 1865, the year the war actually concluded.
“We did not stop the expansion of slavery, and enslavers dominated the presidency, Senate and Supreme Court until 1865, when the North was reluctantly drawn into a war that ultimately ended slavery,” Hannah-Jones wrote in a series of comments shared to Twitter discussing the end of slavery in America.
After being called out for the mistake, Hannah-Jones, who was named to TIME’s list of the “100 most influential people” in 2021, claimed her message was “poorly worded” and placed doubt on whether anyone would believe she did not know “when the Civil War started.”
DML: Their entire “critical race theory” agenda is based on lies.
5 – CDC backs FDA authorization of boosters for healthy 12- to 15-year-olds despite safety concerns
The Washington Examiner reports: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reinforced federal regulators’ decision earlier this week to authorize Pfizer booster doses for healthy people ages 12-15, a move that comes amid growing concerns that federal regulators are shutting out vaccine experts from decision-making.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 13-1 to recommend administering Pfizer booster doses to otherwise healthy adolescents ages 12-17 just hours before CDC Director Rochelle Walensky gave her final approval. The FDA authorized booster shots for 12- to 15-year-olds Monday and for 16- and 17-year-olds last month without convening its committee of vaccine experts, making Wednesday’s the latest authorization in a succession of green lights for extra doses meant to slow down the spread of the highly contagious omicron variant.
“The FDA experts are right in being hesitant to authorize boosters in young people,” said Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and outspoken critic of the Biden administration’s push for boosters in healthy young people. “We’re in a real political quagmire. We’ve got a rogue FDA bypassing the normal process of convening experts and putting authorization before them for a vote before authorizations are issued.”
DML: Not for my kid!
