DML Morning Briefing December 26
Today is December 26 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1.Lets Go Brandon caller is getting threats
Fox News – A caller from Oregon who tagged on “Let’s go, Brandon” when ending his Christmas Eve phone chat with President Biden last week now says he’s being “attacked” for what he claims was a “joke.”
“And now I am being attacked for utilizing my freedom of speech,” Jared Schmeck, 35, a former Medford police officer, told The Oregonian newspaper Saturday.
The livestreamed call drew media attention in part because Biden responded, “’Let’s go, Brandon,’ I agree,” even though the phrase has been used by the president’s critics to mock him.
But Schmeck, a father of four, claimed Saturday he had no ill feelings toward the president, even though he believes Biden “can be doing a better job.”
A Pennsylvania dad and two of his sons have died after a house fire tore through their home on Christmas morning.
Authorities say the fire started at the home of the King family at 1:22 a.m. Saturday in Quakertown and killed Eric King and his two young sons, Liam and Patrick, according to FOX 29 of Philadelphia.
Eric King’s wife Kristin and the couple’s oldest son Brady were able to escape the flames while the rest of the family was trapped inside. The two surviving members of the family were treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital.
The fire started in the area near the Christmas tree and its lighting, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia but authorities say the investigation into the official cause is ongoing.
3.Christmas flightmare day THREE: Nearly 500 flights are cancelled and more than 1,600 are delayed on Sunday after 1,000 were nixed over last two days due to Omicron surge
DailyMail – Although Christmas might be over, holiday travelers won’t be able to escape the airport chaos on Sunday as 492 flights have been canceled and 1,636 more were delayed due to staffing shortages caused by the COVID Omicron surge.
The new wave of delays and cancellations comes after nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled and more than 8,700 were delayed on Christmas.
Travel conditions appear to ease up on Monday, when currently 44 flights are canceled and only 12 delays expected.
DML: Lets Go Brandon
4.Skier dies after being ‘fully buried’ in a Colorado avalanche
CNN – A backcountry skier near Cameron Pass in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains died Christmas Eve after being “fully buried” in an avalanche, officials said.
It was Colorado’s first avalanche death of the season. A total of 12 people died in the state in the 2020-2021 avalanche season, the most in nearly a decade, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
Investigators say Friday’s avalanche was about 150 feet wide. The incident happened at about 2 p.m. (4 p.m. ET) on the southeast end of South Diamond Peak.
“The victim’s partner was able to locate him with a transceiver and probe pole and extricate him from the snow, but he did not survive,” the CAIC said in a news release Saturday.
DML: Terrible story.
5.DeSantis rips Biden over pushing vaccine instead of treatments
Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) was interviewed by Dan Bongino of Fox News Saturday evening. DeSantis criticized the Biden administration for pushing vaccines over COVID treatment methods, while also cutting Florida’s supply of monoclonal antibodies.
“They really want to control people’s behavior.”
