DML Morning Briefing Tues. Nov. 16: Rittenhouse, ‘Old friends’ Xi and Biden, your tax $ to illegals, Fauci, and more…!

Today is November 16 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning.

1 – Rittenhouse jury to begin deliberations at 9am TODAY as Kenosha National Guard prepares for chaos: Judge tells jury to ignore ‘everyone’s opinion’ including ‘that of the president’ after Biden labeled teen a ‘white supremacist’ in 2020
The Daily Mail reports: The jury in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse will retire to consider their verdict on Tuesday at 9am, as the city of Kenosha braced for protests ahead of the verdict.

Rittenhouse, 18, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and other counts for killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz on August 25, 2020.

On Tuesday deliberations will begin in the case that has stirred fierce debate in the U.S. over guns, vigilantism and law and order.

The jury has not been sequestered. Eighteen jurors have been hearing the case; the 12 who will decide Rittenhouse’s fate and the six who will be designated alternates will be determined by drawing numbers from a lottery drum.

Some bizarre moments from the closing arguments on Monday:

DML: Stay tuned….

2 – Xi calls Biden ‘my old friend’ after US president had insisted they were not close
Fox News reports: China’s President Xi Jinping referred to President Biden as his “old friend” ahead of a highly anticipated virtual summit meeting Monday evening that did not produce any major breakthroughs.

Xi’s choice of words to describe his relationship with Biden contradicted the way both the president and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki have characterized their relationship. Biden has touted his rapport with Xi as an advantage during increasingly fraught diplomatic dealings between the US and China, even as he has disputed the idea they are friends.

“It’s the first time for us to meet virtually. Although it’s not as good as a face-to-face meeting, I’m very happy to see my old friend,” Xi said through a translator at the start of the meeting.

Biden has claimed on multiple occasions to have “traveled 17,000 miles” with Xi during his time as vice president in the Obama administration. But the president bristled during a June press conference when Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked if Biden would call Xi “old friend to old friend” to demand China’s cooperation with efforts to investigate the origins of COVID-19.

“Let’s get something straight: we know each other well, we’re not old friends,” Biden said. “It’s just pure business.”

DML: Oh yes, they’re old friends, all right. Biden’s not fooling any of us.

3 – Biden’s spending bill drops key child tax credit requirement that could pay out billions to illegal immigrants
Fox News reports: President Biden’s massive $1.75 trillion spending bill would drop a component of the child tax credit program that could lead to billions in payouts to illegal immigrants.

Tucked away on page 1,647 of the Build Back Better Act, the Democrats’ social spending package, is a provision that would repeal the Social Security number requirement to obtain child tax credits. This change would expand child tax credits to parents of illegal immigrants who don’t have Social Security numbers.

Steven Camarota, a Center for Immigration Studies researcher, estimated that eliminating the requirement could result in up to $2.3 billion in additional child tax credit payouts to illegal immigrants.

“Illegal immigrants are able to receive benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children,” Camarota told Fox News. “But the permanent elimination of the SSN requirement means that even illegal immigrants whose children are also illegally in the country can receive cash payments, including the roughly 600,000 unaccompanied minors and persons in family units stopped at the border in FY2021 and released.”

Camarota also estimates an $8.2 billion payout from the expanded child tax credits to illegal immigrants with U.S.-born children.

DML: This is an absolute OUTRAGE!

4 – ‘Let’s go Brandon’ chants roar through Texas church
The Washington Examiner reports: A Texas megachurch was filled with chants of “Let’s go Brandon” as the San Antonio place of worship was home to the ReAwaken America conference.

The event at the Rev. John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church hosted speakers such as former national security adviser Michael Flynn , who worked in the Trump administration.

Attendees of the event chanted “Let’s go Brandon” and clapped, according to footage of the event.

DML: Let’s Go, Brandon!

5 – Fauci: Trump’s ‘Misplaced Perception’ About Individual Rights Hurt Public Safety During Pandemic
Breitbart reports: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases head Dr. Anthony Fauci said on “CBS Sunday Morning” that former President Donald Trump’s “misplaced perception” about people’s individual rights hurt public safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ted Koppel asked, “Could it have been different? If the president had led in a different way?”

Fauci said, “The answer to that is yes. But when you have leadership, you know, denying that something is a serious as it is, then you have a real problem. In that respect, it could have gone differently.”

Koppel said, “Does it border on criminal?”

Fauci said, “I wouldn’t say that because, you know, that generates a lot of, you know, unnecessary sound biting. It’s something as a public health official, in mind is serious. For example, one of the things that to me was most difficult to accept is that we put together a good plan for how we were going to try and dampen down the spread of infection early on, thinking that that was accepted by everybody. And then, the next day, you have the president saying, ‘Free Michigan. Free Virginia.’ I didn’t quite understand what the purpose of that was, except to put this misplaced perception about people’s individual right to make a decision that supersedes the societal safety. That, to me, is one of the things that, I think, went awry in all of this.

DML: Let’s get something straight, Fauci… my freedom is not a “misplaced perception!”
