DML Morning Briefing Mon. Nov. 15: The VEEP in deep trouble? Plus more…
Today is November 15 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning.
1 – Kamala Harris sidelined amid growing tensions with Biden, insiders say
The New York Post reports: Vice President Kamala Harris is being increasingly alienated in the White House as her approval ratings plummet — as the first female veep feels she’s not getting the same support President Biden gives to white male politicians, according to a detailed new report.
Despite their public show of unity, Biden and his right-hand woman have a dysfunctional relationship that has reached an “exhausted stalemate,” CNN said based on interviews with nearly three dozen insiders.
At a time when the president would usually be expected to promote his vice president as a future replacement in the White House, Biden has instead been sidelining Harris as a potential liability, the report said.
She is increasingly being pushed aside into inconsequential jobs and left out of key meetings as her poll numbers sink even lower than the president’s and the Democratic base appears to be giving up on her, the report said.
Her alienation is so clear, her defenders told CNN they have even passed around an Onion story headlined, “White House Urges Kamala Harris To Sit At Computer All Day In Case Emails Come Through.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tried to clean it up with this statement:
Harris’ chief spokesperson Symone Sanders released a statement:
From Harris’s deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh:
From Harris’ deputy communications director Herbie Ziskend:
DML: When you’ve even got CNN throwing Harris under the bus, you know it’s BAD!
2 – MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle claims Americans CAN afford to pay more as cost of living soars: Says ‘dirty little secret’ is that households saved money over pandemic and can now afford expensive groceries
The Daily Mail reports: An MSNBC host has sparked outrage after she claimed that Americans saved money during lockdown so should be able to afford expensive groceries – even as the Labor Department reports biggest increase in the cost of living in three decades.
‘The dirty little secret here, Willie, while nobody likes to pay more, on average, we have the money to do so,’ MSNBC business correspondent Stephanie Ruhel told anchor Willie Geist on NBC.
‘Household savings hit a record high over the pandemic, we didn’t really have anywhere to go out and spend,’ she added.
Rahul argued that retail prices and market values going up are proof that while the current inflation is ‘challenging,’ Americans are complaining about something that could promptly be fixed.
DML: These people are so disconnected from the American people, they must live in a different orbit.
3 – US bishops to weigh whether Biden should receive communion
The Hill reports:
U.S. Roman Catholic Bishops are expected to discuss President Biden’s eligibility to receive communion during a conference this week as his political support for abortion contradicts church teaching.
The bishops intend to vote on a document that clarifies the definition of Holy Communion, a sacrament at the heart of the Catholic faith, during a conference in Baltimore scheduled for Nov. 15 through Nov. 18, according to Reuters.
A committee drafted the document following a conference in June when bishops vowed not to create “a national policy on withholding Communion from politicians.”
During his trip to Rome last month, President Biden said Pope Francis described him as a “good Catholic,” adding that abortion did not come up with the pontiff.
“We just talked about the fact that he was happy that I was a good Catholic and … keep receiving communion,” Biden said.
DML: Why should politicians get a pass? Shouldn’t the same rules apply to everyone?
4 – Shoplifters pack cars with $1,600 in stolen groceries in broad daylight
The Washington Examiner reports: Connecticut shoplifters were caught on video stealing a reported $1,600 in groceries from an Oxford supermarket Tuesday.
The now-viral footage of the robbery shows four masked suspects packing two vehicles with stolen grocery store products as onlookers watch and record, some shouting remarks at the thieves.
“Look at all that,” one bystander is heard saying in the video . “That’s why prices go up, because of these a–holes … can’t get a job like the rest of us.”
Connecticut State Police said that the suspects made off with $1,600 in goods, primarily detergent and paper towels, Fox 61 reported .
Next, they helped themselves to three large screen TVs:
DML: This is totally out of control. Welcome to Biden’s Land of Lawlessness.
5 – Aaron Rogers refuses to wear a mask and NFL forces him to give post-game press conference on Zoom – despite him having antibodies from recent COVID infection: Says he is ‘tired after a difficult ten days’
The Daily Mail reports: Aaron Rodgers was back playing with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday following a tumultuous couple of weeks and having completed ten days of self-isolation following a positive covid test.
But the quarterback but was forced to give his post-game press conference over Zoom because he is unvaccinated and refused to comply with NFL rules that would require him to wear a mask indoors, despite having antibodies against the virus.
‘It was good to be back with the guys, good to be back at home, good to be on the field, really,’ Rodgers said during the Zoom presser. ‘I am happy – just a little tired. It has been a long ten days.
DML: Unvaxxed player banned to ZOOM conference – insanity!
